I wouldn't say they are on the increase to be honest, just the bad element of tradesmen get all the press (and rightly so that they get the bad press they deserve!) but it leaves rest of the tradespeople tarred with the same brush. As I mention in the post above, the cowboys are just a very small minority.
If you've had some great work done by a tradesperson that recommend him/her to everyone you know!

Rip-off tradesmen are on the increase, so I decided to put a website that allows users to see who is ripping people off in there area. Users can create reviews when they think they have been scammed, the website is www.tradebust.com if you have been ripped off then let others know, bust the rouge traders!

The key (or wedge) is used to secure the tenon and stop the tenon from coming apart, most commonly it's called a tusk tenon but sometimes it is as you mention called a keyed tenon.

Hope that helps!

Hello, thanks for a very informative page. About the Tusk Tenon - I always thought tusk tenon and keyed tenon meant the same thing - but your drawing says the tusk is below the keyed tenon. Do you have a source for info on this, I would like to know more about it! Thanks.

I'm a retired joiner and just wanted to say what a cracking read your glossary is, some really old terms i've not heard for years. Have bookmarked for future reading. You should also add 'final fix' though!
