If you’re looking to get garage doors….

If you after a new pair of side hung timber garage doors, then the choice can be quite daunting – have you noticed how everyone claims their doors are the finest? Well you would make me very happy if you would just do one little thing (you don’t even have to get your doors from us), whoever you get your doors from please make sure you buy them once and don’t get suckered into ‘mortice and tenon’ joints.

If you want a decent lifespan from your doors then look for and insist upon a door based on a through, wedged morticed and tenon jointed frame – this is the proper and correct way of making doors.

You can read more on how we make our garage doors here > Making wooden garage doors

You’ll find a lot of websites stating ‘morticed and tenon joints’ – well there are lots of morticed and tenon joints. Avoid Stub tenon or stopped tenons (even if they do mention they are secured with dowels – the dowel sucks water into the joints of the door) and go for a joint that lasts.

We spend far too much of our time making new replacement doors for people, whose doors have failed because they have no been made properly. Do it right and buy it once.

Any Carpenter or Joiner worth his salt will tell you that it should be a through, wedged morticed and tenon joint!
