Recommended ironmongery for Oak is Marine grade stainless steel (grade A4 / 316), with other ironmongery you risk the tannic acid (present in Oak and which is what makes it so weather resistant) reacting with the ironmongery – this can result in blue/black staining as the ironwork corrodes!
