Diagram showing and explaining how to measure for single gates
The Curved headed gate is available with a rising (to the centre) curve OR dropping (to the centre) curve, which do you require?
Joggles are the protrusions on top corners of the gates, these give the mortice & tenon joints strength. As standard the joggles are arched/curved.
Open boarded or slatted gates are great if you live in a windy area, as they allow the wind to pass through the gates. Larger close boarded gates can be difficult, at times, to open into a strong wind; you run the risk of the wind dragging them out of your hands; with an open boarded gate, this can be greatly reduced.
As standard when looking at the rear of the gate you can see the horizontal rails & braces. By making the gate double sided/boarded the central rails and braces are hidden.
Looking at the rear of the gate, is the hinge side the left OR right hand side & do you intend to fit the hinges to front OR rear of the gate?
add a full thickness bottom rail
As standard gates have bottom rail that can only be seen from rear, from the front it is covered by the cladding. Add a full thickness bottom rails means the bottom rail can be seen from both sides of the gates, bottom rail being 5 3/4" / 145mm tall with the cladding being jointed into the rail.
